My name is Corry and my mediums are photography, graphic design, poetry and music composition
What themes do you pursue in you work?
Themes i often pursue are contributions to the black ethos and introspection
What memorable responses have you had to your work?
The most memorable responses to my work have been to part 1 of my 'Multi-pass series' where i transformed black womens mugshots into futuristic ID/passports. I remember there was and is a lot of love shown towards those. A lot of people thought they were smart asses for seeing they were mug shots, it wasn't a secret at all, but it was immersive enough and im glad that everyone got what i was doing with reappropriation.
What/who influences you?
My influences come from all over from sci fi movies like star wars, annihilation, blade runner, fifth element to 70s glorification media like inherent vice, dazed and confused or that 70s show. Rock stars like jimi hendrix, the parliament/funkadelic, stevie wonder, prince, bowie, beatles, van morrison, the stones. photographers like robert frank, carrie mae weems, wolfgang tilmans, juergen teller. filmmakers like barry jenkins, paul thomas anderson, christopher nolan, writers like fred moten and i love the cinematography of roger deakins
What makes your work necessary (to you, to others, to the community, etc)?
What makes my work necessary to me and my community is although i'm still finding black imagery, media and art that aligns with my taste I myself can be contributing to the empty spaces left to fill from self subject art to black people i see, to my vocals over alternative compositions. From imagery i create on a Saturday night, to what ever else may inspire me but, for sure i want to fill in the spaces.
