Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Gigi Oz (She/Her) and I am a fine art photographer.

How did you get into what you do creatively?

Growing up, I watched my father take photos and videos for family events. I was enamored by the way those memories that could be captured to last forever, so I began to love the art of photography. I started off taking selfies of myself in middle school that depicted my emotional state at the time. I realized that you can communicate through photos and focused on ways to get others to understand what I was thinking through composition.

What themes do you pursue in you work?

The beauty of nature, the shadow self, silhouettes, stillness, bold, eye-catching color and shape.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

I've recently compiled my first portfolio. After showing it to my friends, they all told me they loved my images and to keep up the good work. I'm always so critical and protective of my art, their responses really motivated me to be more vulnerable and not to give up on my dreams. Sometimes all it takes is a little push to get you going in the right direction.

What/who influences you?

I am influenced by God Himself.

What makes your work necessary (to you, to others, to the community)?

It's necessary to take the time out and notice beauty in a world filled with much wickedness and evil; to appreciate God's fingerprints and allowing His spirit to fill your heart, still your mind, and heal your soul. A photograph is the visual representation of a memory that will last forever. Even after we are no longer physically of this world, a photograph will be the testament to the legacy left.

Where can we find you?
